Proposed Malewa dam in Kenya: Adequate adaptations to original design

چکیده
Malewa dam in Kenya was first studied the 1990s at preliminary design stage, through a study funded by Japanese Government who entrusted JICA with it. At that time, its main purpose water supply to Nakuru, Naivasha and Gilgil cities Rift Valley. Thirty years later, reviewed within frame of feasibility World Bank account for revised needs -now excluding Nakuru- also taking into increased awareness environmental impact on downstream Lake (Ramsar zone), management scarcity, climate change trends, reliability issue, quality water, sedimentation, as well growing concern operation maintenance costs. Among solutions, focused gravity economic reasons, ground poses serious health problem this area due high fluoride content detrimental human consumption, construction confirmed be best solution after decision making process, subject some changes basic design, such using compensation flow generate hydro-power pump WTP nearby dam, mixing groundwater, building check dams implementing measures.

متن کاملProposed Relationship to Design the Waffle Floor under Harmonic Vertical Loading
The design codes of building are mainly related to the strength of the building and there are no specific codes for the design of building with waffle floors for vibration sensitive equipment. The finite element model, ANSYS, is capable to consider the effects of floor thickness, the size of the bays and stiffness of the columns for analyzing the vibration of the waffle floors and vibration tra...
متن کاملOriginal Contribution ALCOHOL-INDUCED BREAST CANCER: A PROPOSED MECHANISM
Alcohol consumption increases the risk for breast cancer in women by still undefined means. Alcohol metabolism is known to produce reactive oxygen species (ROS), and breast cancer is associated with high levels of hydroxyl radical (OH) modified DNA, point mutations, single strand nicks, and chromosome rearrangement. Furthermore, ROS modification of DNA can produce the mutations and DNA damage f...
متن کاملDesign of Gravity Dam by Genetic Algorithms
The design of a gravity dam is performed through an interactive process involving a preliminary layout of the structure followed by a stability and stress analysis. This study presents a method to define the optimal top width of gravity dam with genetic algorithm. To solve the optimization task (minimize the cost of the dam), an optimization routine based on genetic algorithms (GAs) was impleme...
متن کاملinvestigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures
deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...
